How our home care team build up trust with our elderly clients

It’s well known that there are far more female carers than male, so when Nick joined our Tunbridge Wells home care team, it was a bit of a culture shock for some of our clients.  But his gentle professionalism has won him fans.

We don’t force our clients to have carers they aren’t happy with.  If there’s a personality clash or another reason why they prefer one particular carer, we do our best to accommodate their wishes; after all, our mission is to improve the quality of life of our clients.  And that means providing home care services that we not only know are excellent, but that our clients feel are excellent as well.

So when we told our clients that we had a new, male carer joining our Tunbridge Wells home care team, some of them weren’t sure.  So we respected that and introduced Nick first to those who said they were happy to be looked after by a man.  But his commitment to making a real difference to our clients’ lives gradually won them over.

‘There is one lady who is happy for me to make her lunch, but doesn’t want to have personal care from a man, and we respect that and arrange the rotas accordingly, says Nick.  ‘But what I enjoy about this job is bringing people back into a much better state – and they see that, and it breaks down any barriers or preconceptions they may have had.’  So much so, that Nick now looks after more of our female clients than male.

We want all our elderly clients and those with dementia in the Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge areas to be happy with the carers looking after them.  But we’re confident that our carers’ dedication and enthusiasm for their work will win over even the most particular.
